29/10/2007 - The Village at Butterfield Wins Green Development at OAS Awards 2007

Easter Groups pioneering new office development at its flagship business park has won the Green Development Award 2007 at the Office Agents Society’s annual awards.

The Village at Butterfield has been built around an innovative environmental strategy that is designed to make the buildings operate with a carbon footprint for environmental control that is 80% less than that for equivalent air conditioned office buildings.

The passive design strategy incorporates an innovative underground earth duct system, pre-cooling and pre-heating fresh air into the buildings, exposed concrete soffits absorbing energy and controlling temperature fluctuations, and a high performance building envelope.

Butterfield was also awarded a BREEAM Excellent rating.

As a consequence of these initiatives, The Village at Butterfield is likely to become a benchmark scheme for the future as efforts to produce zero– carbon buildings intensify.

The Village reinforces Easter’s commitment to the principles of sustainable development and is being undertaken in conjunction with the Crown Estate and Luton Borough Council.
